Has anyone every used pvc to aquascape with?  I've heard of people using it, but I just wondered if there is anyone out there that has it in their tanks.  i would want to come check it out.  I'm kind of tired just stacking the rock on itself.  I think if some others have used pvc and liked it, then I may try it.  If anyone has used other things to help with the aquascape please let me know as well.

I have almost all my rock sitting on a PVC structure in my 500gal tank . The PVC structure forms a large cave that the fish can swim under and hange out. The structure also carries water that is expelled at various location throughout the tank. This along with a closed loop is all the circulation I have in my tank. I dont use any powerheads. I used plastic zip ties to attach the rock to the PVC but with a structure this large, I had trouble hiding it completely. However, most of the exposed sections are starting to get covered in corraline. The PVC has allowed me to have a lot more sand exposed than I would have otherwise.

I also use less light than most people would in a  tank this size. This is beacsue the PVC allows me to raise the light loving corals up closer to the light. I used to only have 2 400watt MH buls and 2 90watt PCs. I later added another 400watt MH and get really good growth. You are welcome to come and check it out.

For the tank I'm preparing I have built a PVC stand.  It was really quite fun to pick out the pieces - all those PVC fittings come together nicely to make aqua scaping .  I've made a large rectangle with T's and connecting pieces in the middle of each section so that the center also has support pieces.  It all rests on 4" risers (had to go one isle over to garden irrigation supplies) so that I can have the rock about 1.5" off the sand bed.  I'm reconsidering if it would be even better to have 6" risers for more of a cave effect for the fishes.

I have one small PVC stand in my tank that creates a nice cave for the fish to hang out in.  The idea was to make it so I could see the fish while they are in there, but I've since nearly filled in the front with more rock.

I don't have mine sealed to keep water out.  That might create buoyance problems until you stacked enough rock on it.  No big deal, but annoying when first setting it up.  I personally see no reason for it.

Cool, I've seen Kevin's and Dinhkim's tanks, and I did really like both of your aquascapes.  Did you guys have a hard time tying the rock with zip cords in a tank that is already filled?  So I'm alittle confused, it sounds like you guys have your rock totally off your sand bed.  That sounds like a really good idea, but I just want to make sure I am under standing you guys correctly.

The owner of this tank uses pvc to stack his rock on and it is also a part of a closed loop system. Plus it is one of the greates tanks I have ever seen and hope to use some of his ideas in my own. http://www.oregonreef.com - www.oregonreef.com

 I have drilled into LBTR to add a piece of acrylic dowle. You can get it at Regional Supply. I used it to make a funky arch which was very stable. I did add another one, but then had to redo the whole thing 'cause it looked like the golden arches!

 I have a PVC table and we can see it very clearly when you look in the back of the tank. I'll get a pic tomorrow!

Well I personnaly would use 3/4".
