Hello, I'm new to the forum! I have experience in freshwater planted tanks, and I'm curious about reef tanks. What are the differences in parameter requirements? What is the best size tank to balance price and stability? how do I grow easy corals? do I need a different filter type? what are some tips to keep thing cheaper? Thanks for reading, I love high tech planted tanks, but corals just look so amazing, and I want to learn more.

Unrelated note: does anyone know of a freshwater club in the area? I've been looking and haven't found any local clubs.

Welcome and thanks for reaching out. This forum has TONS of information (Over 30 years worth) that you can read and learn from. This thread covers a good portion of the information needed to get started. There are many way to do it but this one gives some tried and true ways that have worked. There are some links in it that were from other sites that are no longer available but that isn't the most important parts so don't worry. This should get you a good start on the information you are looking for and maybe lead you to other questions you might have.

There is a Salt Lake Aquarium club that I have heard about but I don't have much more information about them. They do meet in the same building that our club meets in just on a different day of the month. They may have information posted on the Sugarhouse Rose Garden website on how to contact them or when their meeting night is that could get you in contact with them. I hope that helps.
