Topic: Reef Keeper Lite deal Posted: November 26 2010 at 12:16pm |

Hi All,
Is this a good deal on marine depot?
http://www.marinedepot.com/MarineDepot.com_Exclusive_Reef_Keeper_Lite_%2b_SL1_Expansion_Unit_w_FREE_PH_Probe_Multi_Item_Monitors_Controllers_for_Saltwater_Aquariums-Digital_Aquatics-DA11311-FITEMOMI-DA11311-vi.html
Who uses this controller or a similar one? Those who use them, do you think they make a big difference? I have my 55g sumpless with a HOB skimmer and canister filter and my lights have their own timer. Would this thing add much value?
Thanks!

its a better deal than when i bought mine. I paid 100 for the head unit and 80 for the SL1 and that was not with the probe. So yes its a great deal and I love the unit

I love my reefkeeper lite. I don't have the sl1 or any other gadgets. I use mine to control my temp and control my lights. My temp stays between 76.3 and 76.7 all day and night. I have thought of getting the sl1 to watch pH but haven't really seen the need for it.
To me it was a nice upgrade from a standard light timer and letting my heater control temps.

It's a pretty good deal, I just wish they sold it with the SL2 instead of the SL1. I really think keeping an eye on pH (correction - they both do pH, but the SL2 measures salinity instead of ORP) salinity is a better way to spend time than messing around with ORP , but that's just me. I'm getting the 99 dollar RKL for Christmas and will add another PC4, a NET, and an SL2 over the next several months.
I've heard that the Apex is a better controller, but they've finally finished the public release of the myreef 2.0 (Reef Keeper software) and the Reef Keeper is just more affordable. That's why I went with it.

So does this mean that you have to buy the sl2 separatly to be able to measure ph? Im certainly not a controller guy. Im just asking because it doesnt make sense to me why they give you a free ph probe with the combo if you have to buy something else to use it??

The SL1 measures pH, ORP and temp. The SL2 measures pH, salinity and
temp. It's the salinity that I think is more valuable than the ORP. I knew there was a reason that I liked the SL2 more, I had just forgotten what it was. I think I'll correct that post of mine.
