Topic: Amazing Little Hitchhiker Posted: January 24 2012 at 10:28am |
I've had a cucumber in my tank for a couple years now to help keep the top layer of my substrate clean. He tools around the tank and does his job looking as ugly as possible. This morning he went to sleep pressed up against the front glass of my tank and while looking at the tank while chatting with a client on the phone I saw an amazing little cucumber hitchhiker sitting on his back. I just had to get pictures since I've never seen it before and have no idea how it got in the tank. If it came with the cucumber, which I suspect it did, I've never seen it in the two years the cuc has been in the tank. This guy is very small so I added a pencil eraser to get an idea of his size. He is literally 1/4 inch away from the glass and the eraser is pressed up against the outside of the glass.

Dang that is cool! Today must be hitchhiker day. I haven't seen anything pop up in my tanks for a long time. But just now... there is a nudibranch on the glass! (he's nowhere near as cool as your find) Grabbed the camera, and then came to post on your thread.
Happy hitchhiker day Will!

True Shane, but you never know how large or small they really are. I have pretty big Asterina's and some extremely tiny ones. Pin head size.
I like the pattern on his back. It kind of looks a little "Fu-Manchu-ish" or like a Chinese mask.
So, Adam, was the nudi a good or bad hitchhiker. I'm betting, BAD, at least for a certain coral or other tank inhabitant.

Will- I'd assume bad, but I left him in anyway. He's just trying to get by in life like everyone else. No harm no foul.

I like it Will. Thanks for posting. Adam, if you post your nudribranch, I'll post mine.
