I just got a sally lightfoot and a red emerald crab and I was reading alot of people have had problems with these guys. I think they are very fascinating and was wondering what experiences you guys have had with them? Also any tips to keep them from killing other inhabitants or dying off.

I haven't had any problems with my red mithrax crab eating anything it shouldn't, although I do target feed mine all the time, it will run out to the middle of the tank with its claws reached up for food LOL

I have never had problems with either. I have heard of people having issues with emerald crabs, more of the green than the red, but that is probably because green are more common. I really don't think either are dangerous. I think a fish would already have to be on its way out for an emerald crab to catch one, they are slow moving creatures. They would probably also have to be HUGE.

hey thanks for the info guys I figured the stuff I read was more rumor based than factual. I plan on spot feeding both of them. So I am sure they will be fine.

Yeah, keep them well fed and they should be fine.

Mine used to love 2 inch chunks of green nori/seaweed. He would grab it and go to town on it

stay away from emerald crabs, when they get hungry they munch on zoanthids.

I love both Emeralds and sally light foots.  I have always keep them in my tanks.  I have never had problem with the Emeralds, but the sally lights eat a snail every once in a while.

Let there be algae on the rocks for them to eat. This is their main food and when it is available they usually don't bother anything else.
