I have a large emerald crab that is eating my peppermint shrimp. I need to catch him and take him to an LFS. Or give him to someone with a large reef tank either way. Funny thing is he does not bother the Peppermint that came with him and the tank only new additions. So what is the best way to catch one of these?
Hard to catch little buggers. To get mine I had to take rocks out one by one and inspect to see if it was in every little nook and cranny. What a pain. Luckily he was on like the third of about 12 rocks. Once you do find him though, good luck getting him out in one piece, they wedge in there so tight.
You could do the 2 liter bottle trap, where you cut of the top part and reverse it into the bottle. Then put some bait in it and wait. You might catch a bunch of stuff but you should get your crab.
Someone was recently trying to catch a pistol shrimp this way.... Look in the Buy Sell section for a post titled Reward. You can find the link there for how to make the trap.
