Every since I setup this new tank and pump I am plagued by microbubbles.
Water is constantly full of tiny little bubbles which make the water appear cloudy.

Anyone got any brilliant ideas on the cause of this annoyance?

I tried to find how they were coming out and put filter floss to block them and in the outlet of the skimmer.  I have heard of using filter socks on the outlet too.

yeah, I think I will start with filter socks on the two drains from the tank overflows into the sump. I hate having filter socks I suppose because I am too lazy to clean them all the time :)

I bet your water clarity will improve, and not just because of the bubbles.

You can get away with once a week unless you stir up things or feed alot.

I have an order of 50 socks coming in, depending on how many are spoken for, you are welcome to a few of them...they are $4 ea.

have you tried slowing the flow rate of the return pump to see if that helps at all?

I think I found the problem. Upon close inspection I noticed that the intake for the return pump was forming a tiny whirlpool all the way to the surface of the water in my sump (5 inches of water) and sucking in air that way. I added a flat piece of Styrofoam floating above the intake and the bubbles are gone! hooray. Tommorrow I will go get a piece of acrylic and put in a more permanent "whirlpool blocker" .

Thanks for the ideas guys.

Im glad you found a cheap fix for the problem.  My return has an 90deg elbow that is pointed toward at a 45deg angle from the bottom.  That is how I stopped the whirl pool effect.

thanks..yes gotta love those cheap fixes. I actually wanted the hole in the sump for the return pump drilled lower, but the guy who drilled it for me put it about 3 inches from the bottom thinking I would need the height for the pump to set flat with the sump on the ground, but since my sump is on a stand I could have had it lower by several inches but so be it..at least it is an easy fix.
