Hi, guys! i need to replace the glass on my MH pendant. I tried a piece from a picture frame and it shattered. Do I need tempered glass?

Or a special thickness?

What is tempered glass anyway?

I had the dame problem. You will need tempered glass. It has been heat treated so it is able to withstand the amount of heat that it will receive from the bulb. If you are running double eneded bulbs DO NOT turn them on without the glass piece. The bulbs will give your tank to much UV and your will kill the inhabitants of your tank(I know from experience). Depending on where you are located there was only 1 shop in davis/weber county that I could find who did tempered glass. I think that Mark Peterson knows of one in SLC but I can't remember the name. If you do a search for tempered glass you may find it in the message board. I hope that this information helps.

Beehive glass will do it.  I got 3 pieces of 8"x8" for about $25 from them.  I think the minimum order is about $15, and there is a minimum on size, I think something like 8" on the diagonal.

8.5 x 8.5 inches square or bigger would fit the outer diameter, then I could just electrical tape it on? Or 7 3/4 diameter circle would fit inside.

The place in ogden where I got mine didn't have a minimum size. They had to order it from some other shop and it took 3 days to get here(the only down side). But they may be able to get you a circular piece.

I will call tomorrow and get a price. There is a nice glass shop that I have used before. I'll let you know what I find out.

Suzy,

I talked with the Kelley Stained Glass today. They cannot run a 7.75" circle of tempered glass (too small for their equipment). They can cut an 8.5" square. It will run about $8 for that.
