so as per a few of you suggesting it i was looking at dosing mag to raise my levels a bit. i have read a few articles suggesting Epsom salt for minor adjustments and wondered if anyone had experience with this, and if the pros out weigh the cons with it.
mag is currently sitting at 1380 and i was looking at bringing it up to somewhere in the 1500 range.

Magnesium Sulfate (Epsom Salt) (3 Cups) + Magnesium Chloride (5 Cups) in 1 gal of RO water is the suggest balance from Randy Holmes Farley two part recipe.

Since you are only trying to raise it by 120 ppm, Epsom salt will work just fine. Epsom salt is way cheap. I'd just do that and not worry about the rest.

I would still use the mag mixture.... epsom salt(sulfate) and mag chloride. Chloride is always a better "transportation device" but for some odd reason (I know there are those few chemists that understand the reason) we need both in our tank.
Maybe it has to do with the way our tank handles sulfur, and releases the mg from it.
Edit: oh and ice melts are usually always calcium chloride, the ones we want to use anyways... you can order in the mag flakes (mg ch).. but I do believe jerry (eagleeyez??) Has some that he is selling that is already premixed(mg sf/ch) you just need a container and water

There is a sulfur cycle, just as there is a Nitrogen cycle. Sulfur is a part of the ecosystem.
There is a common concern about the buildup of sulfur that could happen if someone was to use a lot of Epsom salt for many years. Personally, I believe that concern is an unfounded fear, partly because it would take a very large amount of Epsom salt and because most reef aquariums don't last for more than a few years before they are taken down or moved and changed giving them a refreshing.
