I agree because of coloration and size, although size is not clear from the pics. If it's carapice (body shell)is less than an inch...hmmm Anyone?

I was thinking there was some color like blue on it. If it's just black and white, then a sump (if not yours then a friends sump), is a great place to put unknowns for obsevation. Are you a risk taker? A bad crab can get big and mean pretty fast.

Very, very good pics. (one pic doubled the screen width though)
Those dark tips on the ends of it's claws seem to say "danger area". It doesn't look like a friendly reef safe crab to me, but that's just a guess, until someone id's it.
Jake...
It may eat that red grape algae, especially if not fed.
What have you been feeding it? You could try throwing in a small chunk of frozen brine shrimp or some hydrated freeze dried krill.
Has the algae been growing for you?
The area of the refugia in the pic looks kind of bare. Is it set up as an RDP?
What other algae is in there?
Sorry for all the questions. I just can't help but notice and wonder. It's in my nature.

Much better pictures.  Looks like a fountain crab to me.  Are those patches black or are they a dark purple?  Either way, I would think it is reef safe, but most people would say keep it in the sump just in case.

Watch for those spots to color up.  If they do, let me know and I will show you some cool stuff with them.  Either way just keep track of him, and don't lose him if you can help it.
