Hey all

I have a 150 gal bow front which I have been using as a freshwater tank.  About 2 years ago I medicated the tank for hole in the head.  I used Maracyn and Maracyn II

DO THEY CONTAIN COPPER?  and in your opinion do you think the tank is safe to convert to a reef system?

THANK YOU ALL FOR REPLY

Both Maracyn and Maracyn II are antibiotics, as far as I know they DO NOT contain copper.  I think you're safe converting the tank.

(btw, how many friggin' reef tanks you got???)

Jon is right.  No copper and reef safe.

I used one of the two (I can't remember which one) on a fish that had some problems and his skin started peeling off and it eventually died anyway. I won't use Maracyn again on salt water fish.

I used both on a coral beauty with popeye. The Maracyn did not do anything but the Maracyn II cleared it up in less than a week. The difference between the two is that one is for gram positive bacteria and the other is for gram negative. I can't remember which is which right now but the Maracyn II is the one to use for most salt water bacteria.
