glue a piece of pvc to the handle.... make it a much longer handle

Is there any way for me to make it easier to turn the ball valve so I can stop the flow of water going up to my tank. Say for example so I can do a water change? The ball is really hard to turn and fighting w it actually loosens the bulkhead, which leaks on my floor, which annoys my husband and myself, because we end up suffering from wet sock syndrome.
