I use the $1 digital one you get on amazon from China. Has free shipping and it works great! I usually buy like 10 at a time and have one in the sump and 1 in the display and a bunch of backups.

I don't know if their is a best, at least in the aquarium trade. But I do what Adam does and have a couple of them in each tank for redundcy. I have one that plugs in and another that is a basic $5-$10 option.
