Assuming there are holes to thread the wire through (which from the pic there are) then yes as long as they are small enough that the "end" doesn't come back through (which from the pic they are small enough)  Like I said I am using it to hold up a sign in my living room now.  See how the cord goes down through the hole and the adjustable end holds it up.  Or like Mark said, just use chain and S hooks... Though personally I've used chain and didn't like it as much... but it is much cheaper.

I have used ordinary chrome chain that I buy at the hardware store. It's the "Jack Chain" shown on this site http://www.sunnydayhydro.com/taxonomy/term/408
I use two lengths hanging from the ceiling spaced a little further apart than the fixture is wide. "S" hooks (crimped closed on the down side) on the fixture allow the light to be raised and lowered along the chains. I used this because I was always working in the tank making frags. I adjust one side at a time so there is never a risk of the light falling.
I secure the chains to the drywall ceiling with molly screws(rather than toggle bolts which require cutting a large hole) because joists are rarely in the right position.

Here it is... I'll have to get back to you on what they are called and where to get them, but I had a setup similar to that that I just recently changed over to a hanging sign.  It has pull thingies to raise and lower and the only "problem" is that it uses metal wires and they are really sharp. 

Basically you can use molly bolts to hang them from the ceiling and it works great.  I'll post again when I figure out more info on them, just wanted you to know that someone knows what you are looking for and is trying to figure it out...
