I finally got things stable enough to finish my rock scape which I did today. I am still working on refinishing the stand and canopy which I might do tomorrow. Stand is done just need to finish the doors. I will also be adding new lights this week, going from 4 48inch vho,s to 2 48inch t-5 and 3 halides. My parameters today are
Calcium 440
Alk 7
Ammonia 0
PH 8.4
Nitrate 20
Nitrite 0
Salinity 1.023
Temp 78

Edited by jaschall - June 16 2012 at 10:51pm

Keep your refugium lights on until Ammonia and nitrites are back to 0. The loss of your corals is feeding the ammonia spike at this point, and whatever caused the initial spike is probably what killed them. Sorry for the loss, it is hard to see things turn out like that.

My ammonia has come down from over 8. I have done water changes last one was 65 gallons, new carbon, ammonia pads around inside top of over flows, been changing out filter socks every 12 hours, lights in refugium 24 hours on.
My tank is a 120 gallon mixed reef with 5 fish. When I moved my tank I added new sand, 40 gallons new water, all the same rock. Today things are looking alot better. I have lost 90% of my sps,1 torch, some favia, a few zoas, 1 fish, and a few other things. Its been a very sad week for me so far with half my corals dead. Here are my test results from the last hour.
Salinty 1.024
Temp 78
Ph 8.4
Alk 8.12
Calcium 460
Ammonia 1
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 20

The best thing to do is get a bunch or macro and run your lights 24/7. A water change is not a bad idea, but it would need to be a big water change if it is to affect the ammonia spike. Can you describe how you moved the tank? Did you use all of the same rock and sand? Did you do a water change or just top off the tank? This will help in giving some advise on what else you might want to do to combat this.

Oh, did you have any die off when you moved the tank? Did you use any ammonia based cleaning products around the tank?

Edited by WhiteReef - June 01 2012 at 11:09am
