Thanks guys! I have done a 20% water change and the carbon. I have mixed more water and plan to do another. I think I have some Chemi-pure somewhere. I bought some a while back but never used it. It was a return pump I got off Ebay. had it for a couple years.

LOL! I haven't logged on for a while. I googled this problem the other day and got alot of unrelated info. so I thought I would ask the experts.

Sounds like it could be a chemical that affected the fishes gills. I agree with the advice above, plus I would run one other filter media, either one will do - Poly Filter or Chemi-pure
I prefer Poly Filter because it's easier to use. Check out the links to learn more about how it removes harmful organic contaminants that neither activated carbon, algae nor skimming can remove.

Which pump failed? Brand? Model? I would start with a huge water change as much as you possibly can. That hopefully will take out the nasties. Then I would also run your refugium lights 24/7 until things clear up. Carbon is also going to be good to help pull out some of that junk. I came home the other day and smelled something that smelled like burning plastic. I found that a return pump had burned out in my sump. The body of the pump swelled and it had some cracking in the top where it is sealed. I pulled it out, changed the filter, and put carbon in. since then my fish have been dying off steadily but the corals, crabs, snails, and everything else seems to be doing great?? Water tests look ok. Seems strange to me, I figure the corals would show stress. Any ideas how to clean up this mess so I can start getting new fish?
