Otherwise I would recommend taking it slow and building up the things you need. You are going to have at least a small cycle adding additional live rock to a new tank, especially if it isn't fully cured. You can use all dead (clean) sand and seed it with a few cups of live sand to get the sandbed going. What livestock would you be moving? What is your fish population? Do you have macro algae or a refugium?

    Author: nrthface
Subject: 46678
Posted: February 09 2011 at 2:47am

I'm in a 55 with overflow to a 20 gallon sump. Simply put i would like a bigger tank most likely 150. Can i use the same water live rock etc and switch to a bigger tank? Generally this would mean adding additional sand and rock. My tank has vita rock panels both on the back and bottom (no sand) so i would need to add sand. I would not be having new panels made for the bottom but want sand. Am I going to have to cycle a new tank? Or is there any way i can get a larger tank and just switch, adding sand and additional live rock? I would be getting a bigger sump as well but using the same Protein Skimmer, UV S, Calc Reactor, Auto Topper etc. What do you all think?
