Oh, sorry, the pic didn't show any Tangs. So pick out a place in the sump where you can see if the algae starts to grow.

Did I ask if this tank came from someone else? Do you know what chemicals they might have used that also soaked into that rock and sand?

Okay, it's not a twist bulb but it's the same idea. We started this move toward cheap fixtures when someone here found the Lights Of America flood lights a few years back. Those fixtures were and still are about $40 and sometimes burned out after a year. So when the twist bulbs became avaiable a few years later many of us jumped on it. And now LOA is doing it even better. Thumbs Up Thanks for the pics. Its not a twist bulb Mark. Its one of those little white 7 dollar fixtures. And when it burns out, I will buy another 7 dollar fixture to replace it with. Here I will take a pic. What is the wattage equivalent of the twist PC bulb?
What was the wattage of those 50/50 bulbs?
 
Rather than wait for the answers I am going to give you some reasons why the algae grows better now.
 
1. The light spectrum of the cheap twist bulbs is better for growing algae than the 50/50 PC bulb
2. Twist PC bulbs have equal or higher lumens/intensity
3. Newer light bulb compared to old bulbs
 
If you check, you will find that over and over here on this MB we recommend those twist bulbs in a simple reflector. It's not because they are cheaper than a fancy PC fixture from the LFS, though that is true, it's because they work better.Approve

Totally off topic I know, but its interesting to me to read that intense light over the refugium make it work its best. I had a CF ficture with 50/50 bulbs and super intense lights over my fuge for 6 months. When I moved in august, i dropped it and broke both bulbs. I put a little 7 dollar "lights of america" walmart fixture on it to use until I bought some new bulbs. Let me tell you. The chaeto in my sump grows like a week under that 7 dollar light. If it was me, I would get a bit of Caulerpa from someone and place it in the display tank where it's easier to see it growing. Also because if you are like most, the lighting may be better there. (actually, intense light over the Refugium makes it work its best)
Panacur? - Since it is a new tank, we are not sure what is causing the problem.
Question Was this tank with rock and sand purchased from someone else? Do you know the history of what might have been medicated before you got the tank?
