Thanks again Mark, and Adam. Seems like there is more to it than I originally thought. Im not sure if I will be able to make it next saturday. It might be my only day off, and I have an elk tag that ends the day after. If I dont go do that I will try to make it for sure. Most experts out there will tell you to quarantine everything.  It's such a big topic we opted to make it the first presentation at the mwrf.
So to echo Mark- I'd highly recommend you attend that event.

As far as I know, they are the same. Because one of the things this tank will be dosed with is copper, it's impossible to keep any invertebrate organisms, but after a while there is some bacteria that will grow to handle N compounds.
 
Are you going to The MWRF next Saturday? That will be a great event with helpful info in this and many areas.
 
If you are interested in seeing a large quarantine/hospital system go visit Mountain Shadow Marine in Centerville. As far as I know, MSM is the only LFS to use a quarantine system for their fish. They don't quarantine all fish and some fish cannot remain in the medicated water for more than a day ot two without problems, but you could ask them more about it. I used to work there.

Thanks Mark. I agree, i would much rather prevent anything from happening than trying to cure. And i do use garlic oil, and it seems to work great. but i would still like to know just in case something were to happen. i read some threads on here about peoples fish getting sick, and i know they have a lot more experience than me. so that just tells me anything can happen. It may seem an easy question but is the basis for a lot of discussion.
The question that inevitably comes up is "Why do you think you need a hospital tank?"
Experience and advances in the reef aquarium hobby have shown us that prevention is much easier than cure. Setting up a healthy environment for our watery pets is much more productive. Learn more about setting up the reef aquarium, including how to prevent sickness and parasites like Ich, in this thread and the links it contains to discussions such as the use of Garlic Oil as an excellent preventive step.

Hey everyone, I am somewhat new here and have what is probably a pretty easy question. I have a 20 gal tank just sitting in my basement and wanted to turn it into a hospital tank. I dont have any sick fish right now, but would like to have it set up if something happens.
