Thanks for the offer. I work year round so I am here all the timeAngry..LOL! It is nice because I can get things done without me bothering teachers....WAIT! Reverse that!LOL (there is a Title One Teacher that drive me up the wall.....my wife....Love you sweetheart!)

I agree with most of what has been said so far. I see a problem with the location of the frag tank. Feel free to call me at 435-632-3366 (my other phone got wet at Lagoon!)

If you are not providing ahigh current flow, I would use a shallow sand bed in the 20L just to provide the coral with some live food.  If you want high current, I would go with bare bottom...

I think I follow what you are saying. I'm not a fan of bare bottom tanks but in this case it might be a good way to go.

Well I am going to be setting up a frag tank and had some questions.
 
In this picture you can see where the frag tank will be placed in relation to my main tank. It is a 20 long.
 
 
This is a view behind the main tank and looking at the sump.
 
This next one shows the sump with an extra return. ( I have some cleaning to do as I have just moved things around) The reason I have an external sump is because this tank is in a school and I allow students to learn about the setup...see the good and the bad I guess.
 
 
What I was thinking about doing is to drill the return on the left side of the 20L end as seen in pic #2. Running a divider down the middle with about 4"~6" open on the far end. This would allow for more water movement and place a powerhead pointing at the return to the sump. The flow would be in a "U" shape. This would allow for me to put LPS under the return from the sump and SPS before the return to the sump.
 
Next question is should I go bare bottom or sand? I am planning on using egg create rack.
