They are in the same overflow box, and there is likely room for theDouble-D (D squared, as I like to call it).  Add bulkhead screensto that image and it would be perfect.  I can see where that wouldlevel out the flow between the two.

Why would height be an issue. (unless the durso's are in the same overflow box) The overflow boxes will take the water as it comes in and the durso's will drain as it comes in. I'd use both as drains with a durso on each.  Do you have one overflow box or two? 

*EDIT*  My comments about needing to have dursos in seperate overflows be at the same height were wrong.  The water level in the tank is set by the level of the lowest overflow box, not the durso inside the overflow.  Sorry for the bad info. 
 
*This is still true* If both drain holes are in the same overflow box, making a "double-durso" isn't very difficult if you have room inside the overflow box.  I have 1200 gph going through a double-durso like the drawing below.  Each pipe takes 1/2 of the water and it's just as quiet as two single dursos.

I have two dursos on my 125 gallon tank and they work together without any problems. 
 
And I've seen a single 1" durso handle the unrestricted output from a Mag18. 
 
Use both overflows.  Murphy says that one will eventually plug off on you!
