I recently built an acrylic tank, but I played with the idea of a glass tank.  I found that the small stores that specialized in glass were much cheaper than home depot for glass, I felt more comfortable with them cutting the glass, they had better selection (tempered vs non) and they had the ability to drill the glass if you want.  Just a thought.

I think I want a tank that is about 2' x 2' x 1'. That turns out to be almost exactly 30 gallons. If I did my reading right 1/4 inch plate glass should be fine for those dimensions. I can get the 1/4 glass from Home Depot and then use sandpaper to smooth the corners. If it is going to be a standard size then it would probably be cheaper,in the long run, to just by one roughly the size you want.
If you want to go ahead and do it just because you want to, then by all means go ahead.

What size of tank do you want to build?

There are some web pages that calculate the size of glass you need based on gallons.

Does anyone here have some experience with this? I want a new tank but can't find one with the dimensions that I want so I could use some advice.
