My banggai laid eggs tonight...too bad I only have one cardinal, at least I know its a female...eggs were quickly eaten by my wrasse and a bristle worm...sad but still cool. Egg cluster center of pic below.

That's curious. I wonder how they ended up in a clump. Did your Bangaii collect and hold them herself before discarding?

Not sure didn't see that but the cardinal was guarding them pretty aggressively, making those click sounds cardinals can make. Other fish I have are chromis, kole tang, hovens wrasse, fire fish, rose goby, mandarin, and some clowns but the clowns are not mated and from google images these were definitely cardinal eggs not clown eggs.

Sounds like she needs a mate. How old is she?

Yea not sure I want a tank full of cardinals, I have had this fish 15 months and got it when it was tiny.

Wow in all the time I was breading them
I've never seen a female have a cluster with out a male. Its sure death besides being unfertilized. Way weird.

Since you only have 1, the eggs would not hatch because they never were fertilized

I have had lone females drop an occasional egg cluster; they are encased in a weak kind of 'sac' that usually dissolves in the males mouth (Banggais are mouthbreeders and the male does the holding). The male holds the eggs for about a month until they hatch and the fry become free - swimming

If you were to pick up a male and they mated you usually end up with between 10 - 20 babies per brood

Very easy to raise, as the babies are the size of freshwater livebearer fry (think guppies or mollies) when 'born' and will eat newly hatched live brine for the first 3 months of their lives

Oh man my plan to fertilize them myself would have never worked! Haha, j/k when I said my wife wanted to "save them" it was more save them from being eaten while the poor cardinal watched. I dont have any interest in breading them but still cool process.
