Hi All...
So I have my new tank up and running, everything from a 1 yr old smaller set up was transfered and now I am in a 57 gallon rimless with a 30 breeder sump and a big cheato chamber over most of the sand from the last tank (maybe 3-4 inches deep) and running a Bubble Magus skimmer with a Eheim pump at about 650 gph on the return as well as two koralias in the tank.
My question is on bioload with this much nicer set up than my biocube of old. I currently have the following and feel like I am good and should wait for stuff to grow but curious if people think I am all ready overstocked (I doubt it?) or if I have a little overhead available still..
1 yellow tang 3 inches max currently- pair of lyre tail anthias 2+ inch male female is probably 1.5 inches oscelaris clown 1.5 inches shrimp goby (forget his name, but small... and stays that way) bi-color pseudochromis
pistol shrimp 2x peppermint shrimp emerald crab 15+ hermits 20+ snails mixed type
a very large variety of corals.
I feed at least 2x/day with the anthias and everyone eats like PIGS. I have ZERO algae in the tank but for on the glass every couple days. The few macros I do have in the tank are being decimated by the tang...
the skimmer runs 24/7 but has pretty minimal output compared to what I think others see, I can easily go an entire week and the cup is never more than 1/2 full and its more of a green skimmate probably from my cleaning the glass, its stinky though... so I try to clean it out 2x/week just in case it goes crazy and overtops the cup and goes back into the tank.
I have not tested nitrogen in probably 4 months. I know that if it creeps up I will see it in Biomass, without a test. So since things are cruising along nicely, I am kinda thinking about leaving well enough alone.
I do a small (relative to volume) water change every 2 weeks, like 7 gallons. And would like to keep to this schedule as so far its easy, and things are working. my ATO is kalk with vinegar running 24/7 on a drip from peristaltic pump.
------------- Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler -A.E. 57 Gallon RImless build in progress check the thread before if becomes boring and just full of nice pictures of colorful coral!
