I have had my tank setup for about 8 months now and everything seems to be doing great.  But I keep losing zoa's.  Not sure if they are eaten by fish or what is going on.  Slowly but surely zoa's dissapear in my tank.  I do not see any die off of them and they look healthy while they are there.  I dont have a lot of corals but I do have some large frog spawn, torch, Kenya tree, xenia, Duncans, Leather, mushrooms, polyps and a red coco worm.  Fish are 2 clowns, 2 pink damsels and a lawnmower blenny.  I have Turbo snails, astria and some hermit crabs.

Tested water last night
Mag - 1490
Alk - 10.9 DKH
Caclium - 490
Nitrate - 0

Didnt get PH or Salt levels but they have been normal.

It may be the astria starfish they like to attach to zoas. If they are closing up and slowly dying off then I would guess it is something eating them. I have tons of zoas and they only disappear slowly after closing up.

I havent noticed anything crawling around on them.  I'll pull one of the small frags out and have a closer look and report back.  Thanks.

I had this problem about a month ago but I had some wierd algae growing on my Zoo's.  I turned off my lights and stopped feeding for 3-4 days and it all went away.  Now, my Zoo's are starting to grow like crazy.  One thing I did notice is that I wasn't dosing Iodine and now I am.  Not sure if that is why they are doing better now but they seem to be doing really good now.  I also use fuel, liquid Calc, Iodide, Iodine, and Strotium.  As well as regular water changes.

I never dose these here:  Iodide, Iodine, and Strotium maybe I should.

I also didnt see anything on the zoa's last night.  Maybe ill snap a pick and post it up.

Any white stuff on them?  Could be zoa-pox.  It's been getting more & more common (along with pests) the last few years.  Treatment is with Furan 2, and I usually dose Vit C along with the treatment.

Any algae issues?  Cyano?

Iodine/Iodide is vital to the growth of soft corals. If my zoas or palys start to close up during the day I just dose a little iodide and they perk right up.

Do you test these after you dose?  I was looking at doing idone, iodide ans strontium, I keep getting mixed reviews.  And it seems the test kits for str are pretty expensive.  If it works ill make the investment.  Probably also do to me not making regular water changes.  I dont change water until I see nitrates or if mag gets low.  I dont dose mag so a water change perks it back up.  Usually water change every other month or so.  But everything else does ok except I cant grow mushrooms and I dont have much to speak of for coraline algae.  Maybe its all related.
