hey im having troubles with ichssssss. i bought a sailfin tang and the next day i sold my puffer to my buddy. today i took some coral from my tank and put them in my other buddies tank, i went to the friends house where my old puffer is and noticed white spots all over him... ich.. that got me nervous so i came to my house and my lionfish has lost a lot of color and i noticed spots on him. i looked at the sailfin and noticed a crap load of spots on him. my lunar wrasse had only a couple spots and i didnt see any on my snowflake eel. i went right away to walmart and bought garlic pills, i mixed the garlic gel in with my fish food and fed the fish. all my fish other than the sailfin ate food. ------------- [53] xGarrettxEdurancex |

| Really all you can do is incourage him to eat by using garlic. If one brand doesn't work try another. Trying to catch him will probably do more harm than good. You could look into getting a uv to help prevent it in the future. I run one 24/7 and havent seen ich or any parasites since I started using it. |

Stinky Garlic oil in the gel caps works best for me, but when Ich has not gone in a day or two, I try another Garlic product. Whenever I add or move a fish I use Garlic Oil when feeding once/day for 5 days. Marinate it into the frozen meaty food without water and feed small clumps a little at a time to be sure all the food gets eaten as quickly as it enters the water. i've been using the garlic with gel caps and all my fish other than the sailfin are doing fine. my sailfin isnt interested in any kind of food in the tank. i saw him muching on some chaeto that i had in there so i too the chaeto out and put garlic gel in it, hoping the sailfin will get to it. its been about 12 hours and it doesnt look like the sailfin is wanting to eat the chaeto. now what?

When they stop eating it's a bad sign that they are probably beyond help. The only other thing would be to catch the fish and place it in a medicated hospital tank which has been set up long enough to be a good biofiltered environment. Don't feel bad. Sailfin Tangs are some of the hardest to keep eating. | or you could try an ro dip, bring ro to about the same temp as the tank if you can try to get the ph about the same too but if you cant dont worry. put him in for about 3-4 min. if he seems super stressed pull him out sooner. sometimes it helps. he may pull through it in my experience sailfins are one of the easy tangs other than purples. |

sorry i dont get on here much. its a 75 gallon tank. I see him eat a lot of stuff off rocks he just wont eat any kind of algae i try putting in for him. he actually ate some of my birdsnest, i was pretty bummed about that. the ich is going away though, my lionfish if finally back to his original color, i dont see any ich spots on him but its also hard to tell.. my lunar wrasse is doing great i havent seen anything on him. same as the eel he's doing great. its just this sailfin i'm worried about. ------------- [53] xGarrettxEdurancex |

I got to this posting late and I hope you have not had any casualties yet. Here are a couple options. http://www.novalek.com/kordon/ich_attack/index.htm All herbal natural ich attack safe for corals, invertebrates, and your bacteria. I have seen it at Marine Aquatics and The Aquarium for $4-$7 a bottle. Haven't tested it so I cant speak on results. Another option: http://www.fishvet.com/no-ich.htm Another completely coral, invertebrate, and bacteria safe product. This I have only found online so you would have to wait for it to get shipped, but I have seen this product used first hand in a reef tank with a sailfin tang that was covered. Over a year later and the fish is healthy and alive as he ever could be. Oh, and someone correct me if I am wrong, but your snowflake is and should always be in the clear. Eels are considered invertebrates and therefore will never be able to contract that wicked ich disease, so he should be in the clear. ------------- This isn't a hobby...its a sport...they should put it in the olympics. |

Eels are not inverts, they are just long skinny fish because they do have backbone, but they are not as susceptible to Ich.
