I think my fish has Ich. It looks is on his top fin and under his pectoral fin. Can I please have some help diagnosing and treating. Thanks, Mat

Doesn't look like ich to me . . . could be a fungus on that fin. Or it could just be some damage from hitting a rock when swimming or another fish biting him. Hard to say. If it were me I'd just watch to see if he has trouble swimming or breathing or eating. If he's fine in all these areas just watch that fin to see if it gets better or worse. May we see a pic of the entire tank and sump/Refugium if there is one? This has a lot to do with the environment the fish is living in.

I'd have to agree with jwoo on this. It looks more like a fungal infection. Ich looks more like grains of sugar all over the fish. I'd watch him and if he continues to eat, swim, and act normally I wouldn't worry too much. He was having some trouble swimming this morning and would not eat last night. Mark here is a pic of my tank. It is a Red Sea Max 130 d I have 10 snails, 10 red leg crabs and a peppermint shrimp and of course the 2 clowns. |

I would try and treat him for a fungal infection. But you'll need a QT tank to do that... A fresh water dip might help and you don't need a whole QT setup. As long as it is easy to catch so you don't stress it too much. Also you have to adjust the pH and temp to match your tank. It must be close to the same pH and temp or you will just cause more stress. Floating the container in the aquarium should bring it to temp. A buffer or pH fixing agent can be used to get the pH right. A 3-5 minute dip is all that is needed. Although, I have heard some say as long as 15 minutes. And just an FYI, this happens more in new setups because everything is not stable yet. So take your time adding fish.

| Can't you treat the whole tank for fungus? It doesn't look like there are any corals yet. I don't know what the fungus treatment harms but its just a thought/ question for you all. |

To set up a cheap Qt you could get a $15 10 gallon tank at walmart, throw in a sponge filter and air pump and then some LR and a ball of chaeto. Depending on what meds you use to treat the tank, most all of them are not safe for inverts. So any invert in the tank when you treat it will die.
