I have two really large tangs making the feeding in my tank difficult for the smaller fish. If I add a sheet of nori the other fish get some of it but the big tangs basically suck it up. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a mesh I could use? I've seen the suction cup mesh that is about 2 inches by 2 inches but I need a larger piece of mesh that I can hold in place with a magnet.

Mesh? Do you mean something that will allow the large fish to eat only little bits at a time? You know the mesh bags that fruits, avocados, etc. come in? I'd use that. I save a bag or two in my fish stuff just for times when I need to use something with a larger mesh size than Bridal Veil/Tulle offers. If one fish seems to be getting it all, I feed more at once or feed in several places in the tank at the same time. Also, don't turn off the pumps. Good idea Mark! Yes, I do leave the pumps on for that reason. Do you think the 1/4 mesh I used for the top of the tank would be ok? I don't want to use anything that might injure the fish.

| you can use two clip on. one for the big fish and the other for the smaller fish. put the first clip on on the usual place and wait until the big tangs start eating. then add the other clip on on the other far side to let the other fish get some nori to eat |

He is one of the culprits  All of the fish get some but these big tangs get proportionately more than the others. I will try two feeding spots but I will still need mesh around them. The big tangs are so strong they can rip it off quickly. (11 inch vlamingy, 10 inch white tail, and now a 5 inch palani). ------------- 210g sw fish West Jordan |

Sorry for being silly but if you're certain that all the nori is consumed why not rip it into smaller peices and presoak it. Then spread it into the water column... As its flyin all over the lil guys should be able to snag at least a few more peices... Just a thought. ------------- In SLC Near Downtown |

Not silly at all. You are correct and I do soak and break up the nori. My goal is to try and create a 'grazing' type of behavior using Rogger's food and nori. Just dispensing the food into the tank creates a grab as much as you can as quickly as you can behavior. I was able to amuse myself and judge the academic level (or courage level) of the fish using a fine filter bag and cutting some small holes in it. That method worked pretty well as the larger fish could really grab the bag and thrash around, releasing a small amount of food that the other fish could also enjoy. Rogger's food lasts an amazing amount of time without falling apart. This exercise lasted for over an hour. I will add two bags to see what happens. I have to use the big glass cleaner magnets to hold the bags in place. I have ordered a couple of the two little fishes magnet holders... ------------- 210g sw fish West Jordan |
