| So here is the question. I currently have a Condy anemone with a clarki clown hoping he would host it. He of course has not so I was wondering if the condy does well under my current lighting am I safe to assume that I could buy another type of anemone to better suit his needs to hopefully get him to host? I was thinking of this type of anemone. Heteractis magnifica. Any thoughts would be great. Just considering my options. Right now it is just the flouecent hood with two bulbs, one actinic, one 10k. over a twenty nine gal. I tried the condy as an expiriment to see if lighting coud support it. And after two months it seems to be doing great. |

First of all Condie's are not host anemonies. Some species may play in them, but they are not natural hosts. Second, anemonies can be difficult to keep under low lighting. In your tank I would suggest a bubble tip anemone. They are common hosts to a variety of species of anemone fish and they do well in aquariums seeming to be OK with slightly lower lighting conditions. Some of the other anemonies seem to be more difficult to keep.

heteractis are very very hard to keep long term, few specimens come in healthy. They grow very large as well, the last one I had got to three feet across. Anemones will live under low lights long enough to slowly die of starvation.... Your lighting is not good enough for anemones, you only have 40 watts maximum of which half is actinic so 20 usable watts, less than 1/gallon. Upgrade your lighting first bare minimum would be a 2x65 PC fixture which you could pick up dirt cheap on ebay, best choice for that tank IMO would be a 150 HQI pendant of some sort, then worry about trying anemones, as will said a bubble tip is a good start. Clowns don't need anemones as hosts, they will readily take to xenia, toadstools, hairy shrooms etc.... |

I'd focus on updating the lighting first. Otherwise the clownfish doesn't need an anemone to survive or be happy. ------------- I <3 Boxers Achilles tang lover |

| that is what I was thinking with the light. I know they are not a host but was just testing and hoping that maybe it could work. I will work on updating the lighting and maybe in the meantime give xenia or something a shot. Thanks guys |

I have a clarki and he hosts in my condi, my RBTA, and my wall hammer. ------------- Vipers look cool at a distant, but be careful of the bite..its a killer! Still to many cool stuff not enough money |

| Even for your Condi you should consider better lighting. I had one in a 20 gallon tank with a 96 watt PC and it slowly got smaller and smaller until I moved it to my 180 with 250 watt HQI metal halides. It is now getting bigger and bigger. It and it's look-a-like friend are a beautiful purple color and though my clown doesn't host them she will occasionally play in them. In fact I just caught her playing in them as I wrote this post. She must have read what I was typing. |

| Yeah I am looking for better lights at the moment. Problem is everything I find is too big for my tank. But if anyone is selling some for cheap that would work for my 29 I am VERY interested. |
