Hey everyone,

I've been messing around with some of the Google applications and tonight I whipped up this http://www.ricosweb.com/maps/lfs.htm - custom map page on my website that has the location of almost all of the local fish stores  from Orem to Ogden.  I haven't added any of the PetCo's yet.  :)  It works just like maps.google.com, including the satellite and hybrid views, zooming, panning, etc.  Click on a marker to view the contact information for that store.

Google only has letter markers up to J, so I'll be creating custom markers.  I was thinking something with a reef theme.  :)  Any ideas would be welcome!  Stores can be added fairly easily, and if the club would like, I'll donate the code for use on the Local Pet Stores part of this site.  Whoever is handling the webmaster duties can send me a PM for details.

Here's the link again: http://www.ricosweb.com/maps/lfs.htm - LFS Store Map

Thanks for the compliment Bob, I appreciate it.  Does anyone else have any comments, good or bad?  Suggestions for improvement?  Advice on something else I should spend my time on instead?  :)

80+ views and one reply.

I've never been to Reef Kingdom, but I'm pretty sure the marker is placed on
a Provo address not an Orem one.

EEK!I am a chump! I didn't view 'till after 80 views. Sorry?

I actually think I've been to every fish store in this state, even St George
and am now expanding to Vegas! Thanks for linking up the newbies!

We are going to CA sometime this summer. I will probably check out
some of theirs!

You're probably right.  The problem is I have to use latitude and longitude to place a marker, and the translation from a street address to lat/lon apparently is more of an art than a science.  :)  I've corrected the ones I've been to personally, but I'll need some help with the others.

If anyone can provide lat/lon coordinates for LFS's that are marked wrong, please post them in this thread or send me a PM.  Here's an example:

Aquatic Dreams: -112.021450, 41.220090

Two thumbs up Ricordia. How did you make this website? Do you have a tutorial. If its not too much trouble, please PM me with the details.

Hey, that's pretty cool. How about buoys for markers? Nautical flags? Snorkels? Sea stars? Lots of possibilities.

Thanks everyone!  I still haven't heard from anyone about putting it on this site, but I'm glad some of you are finding it useful!  :)

For anyone interested in the programming, all you need is a good understanding of Javascript.  Visit Google's page http://www.google.com/apis/maps/ - here for details.  I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone has about the code, or improvements, or whatever.

Nice job, however the marker for Incredible Pets is South of the marker for The Aquarium.

I found a different lat/long pair for Incredible Pets' address, can you tell me if it's accurate now?  Keep sending the corrections!  :)

I also just updated the ReefKingdom entry, since I'm planning to go there after I pick up my clams at Desert Reef Aquatics.  :)
