I would appreciate any feedback on this type of system! Thinking of under the kitchen sink (with a hose to my reservoir/container once a week or so)

As long as you aren't drinking the DI it looks fine. I got mine off ebay and it works wonderfully!

DI water will dehydrate you because it doesn't have any of the ions that we require...mine came with a warning label not to drink it.

You can bypass the DI system just for drinking though, so it's not useless :D

DI water will not dehydrate you. You can drink DI water, I do all the time. Likely the reason there is a warning on your DI is that the DI resin isn't NSF certified.

It has alwasy been my understanding that DI was unsafe but I have gone through about a dozen search pages on Google and can't find anything that states that RO/DI water is unsafe or dangerous. Perhaps it's just fine.

Common sense tells you that if it strips the water SO clean that it is unsafe to drink, then considering all the minerals in the ocean, it would be unsafe to put fish and corals in as well. At least, without re-adding some important minerals. On the other hand, if the ocean water is as pure (and therefore dangerous) as DI water to drink, I would have died when I was a kid just about every saturday we went to the beach growing up, 'cause I unintentionally drank a lot of ocean water. But, if the ocean is not as pure as DI water, then perhpas RO/DI water is too pure for our marine life!! Well, obviously not considering the number of filters sold yearly. We all know that if it kills fish or coral, no one will buy it. So, this dizzying logic dictates that DI water must safe for the fish and coral, and is probably just as safe to drink.

The one problem with DI water I read about is that it must be kept in stainless steel container so it doesn't absorb the tase of whatever it is stored in, such as plastic which could easily seem to taste like paint.

I store mine in a 55 gal plastic drum. We drink it occassionally and it doesn't taste bad at all.

I bought this unit about a year ago it is a little less expensive and the replacement filters he sells is a lot cheaper. Mine works great and I have it hooked up to my ice maker and the cubes are crystal clear. The DI water tastes great and my whole family drinks it.

a chemist friend of mine once explained much better than I am about to, that when you drink RO water you are in fact creating a type of reverse osmosis inside your stomach(for a very short while, in the order of minutes, less than 5)while the water equilizes with the water in your body. because the water is so stripped of nutrients.

But then again he drinks it as well as I do.

RO is really good to mix with concentrated cleaners, for house cleaning and plant food for the house plants. for the same reasons above.

MAny of the brands of expensive drinking water you buy in the grocery store is RO water.

We advise against drinking DI water - w/o going into the details, and if for no other reason than DI water doesn't tast very good, and you're wasting your DI resin ($) to produce drinking water.
