Hey Bruce, you have a new avatar. Smile

Jeff started a thread that has become quite long. http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=42746
Were you involved with his decision to try the pellets?

And here is another thread: http://www.utahreefs.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=42375

These methods are called Carbon Dosing. Carbon dosing grows more bacteria to eat up N compounds and can be helpful to a tank that already has good biofiltration but the hobbyist wants to keep more fish. I believe it unwise to overload a tank and it is best to maximize biofiltration before using carbon dosing.

Well said Mark but i don't believe you!! What is wrong with my biofiltration? Bruce just services my tank, doesn't  decided what I do with it! Ecobak also reduces phosphates
