Speaking as a beginner, I would agree with Adam.  I love the idea of a FAQ, acronyms, and HowTo section in the nav bar.  I also thinkof the message board as one giant library. I’ve had to train myself to not just jump on the board and post aquestion; but first to take the key words of that question and enter them intothe search function of the message board. I almost always find the answer and a lot of additional answers toquestion I don’t know to ask.

 

In regards to SandRider’s post, Mark’s questions are whatinspired me to dedicate a blog to my reef tank. I know I’m going to be asking a lot of questions and I don’t want tohave to type out all that info every time.  Since I planed on keeping a journal/log on mytank anyway, I decided it would be best to type it out once and post itonline.  Then all I have to do is createa hyperlink to it in my signature and refer people to it whenever I ask aquestion.  I’ve got the skeleton laid butno info in it yet as I do not have a tank yet. You can check it out at TheTank.blog.co.ukif you want.

Jason and Andrea-

Well here was my first thought.  To me, this entire message board is a begnniners forum.  I'm not really sure what I would or would not put into a special forum. 
I know we are working on a beginners list of FAQ and Acronyms and the simple how to guide.  These items will be posted on the nav bar to the left <----, but I'm not sure if we need any more forums????

There is so much info that alot gets lost in the saltwater mind of a newbie. just something like a refresher read type thing. Most people seem to like asking specific questions and getting specific answers. We disbanded the WMAS Library because of lack of interest. I suspect that sticky notes will be ignored just like the books were. It is sometimes frustrating to answer the same questions over and over again, but that kind of personal attention is part of what makes this MB successful. Few people can take the time to read and study every little thing they have a question about. Also, sometimes my understanding of a particular topic changes in the interim so the current answer could be better than an old answer

For me, until the time comes that I don't enjoy it anymore, I will continue answering questions and sometimes refer people to previous threads.
There are two things that I think are great:
when a person includes this message board as part of their homework before making a purchase or taking action
when a person asks questions here or calls me at the very first hint of a problem.

BTW I'm impressed that you chose that awesome Macroalgae thread as an example. The value of algae in a reef tank is too often missed by new hobbyists.
