A carbide seal will last a lot longer and are for salt water applications.I do believe the carbide seal is the original seal they come with.

Possibly.
The motor shaft is 5/8" and the cup shaped seat of the seal is about 1 1/4"
I actually called the manufacturer of the wrong new seal, US Seal and they told me that the PS 1000 sounded like the one I needed.

Brad, just let me know and I can get my brother Rodney, a former WMAS member, to do your bearings too.

The Barracuda pump is now purrrrring like a cat.
The bearings were $12 plus installation, which my brother did for free and the seal was $14.
The seal is very common. It's the PS 1000. (The first seal I ordered was a PS 100, very similar but not quite right.)
So for just $26 this $400 pump is running like new and will probably last another 5 years.
I love fixing things.

The price was actually $4.49 plus shipping and handling which totaled $14. The low price got my attention but the price is still less than half of Reeflo after they add whatever they add for shipping and handling.

I ordered it from http://www.aquasuperstore.com/products/PS-100-Replacement-Pump-Shaft-Seal~2785.html  It's the 5/8" diameter one that is evidently used for many other pumps. I'll post when it comes and fits in, to let you know if it is the right one.

I also had to replace the motor bearings because the Pump was very noisy. I'm lucky that my brother works at a place that has wholesale bearings and a press to remove and install them.
