I wouldn't worry too much about it. Not all Wassse need to dive into the sand at night, and if they really need to they will find a a good spot. Some create a cocoon that they sleep in, similar to a Parrotfish. It depends on the individual as well as the species. Here is the previous nights cocoon of one of my Sixline Wrasse.

I guess it depends on how rocky your original sand is with the replacement sand. They don't need sugar fine sand to be able to burrow for the night.
