I have a leak in the lip around the top of my acrylic tank. This lip was installed so that I could run the water level all the way to the top of the tank. Occasionally the water level will rise enough to go over the top of the tank maybe 1/8" for a couple seconds every 1/2 hour or so. Because of this leak the water drips down the side of my stand. I want to seal this back up with some Weld-on 16, but it is likely that the water level will rise before it is completely set. It is not under much pressure, and I should be able to dry the area thoroughly to apply. Will the solvent kill everything in the tank? What if I used silicone (that is what was on there before, that leaked)? I can leave the canopy open for fumes and turn off the halide for a day (Would it be better to leave it closed and bake it dry quickly, is that a fire hazzard?).

Use either one. I wouldn't worry about the solvent getting into the water, it's likely not harmful at such a low level and most of it will very quickly evaporate anyway. The fumes from curing silicone are not flammable. It's actually acetic acid (vinegar) or a derivative.

That brings up another question I have had for some time...

Is the solvent for acrylic (weld-on 3/16) the same as the solvent for cyano-acrylate glues (superglue)? If not how is it different? Can it be used inside the aquarium also?
