Marine Aquarium Hobbyists are sometimes observed to remark, as they are pulling their hair out,

"I've tried everything."

Well, they probably have not tried everything. But perhaps the statement is incomplete. It probably should read,

"I've tried everything I know of." followed by a pleading exclamation, "Help me!"

There are so many knowledgable people in this hobby. This includes knowledgable LFS employees and owners and the people on this WMAS Message Board and other forums. That means there are loads and loads of supposed fact and certain opinion about how best to set up, maintain, and resolve problems in a marine aquarium. The issue of "What is best?" may be the biggest reason why we all can't always work together.

I really want to believe that there are solutions to these issues. I'm wondering if sometimes an issue persists, because we either don't believe that a solution is possible, or we are looking for an excuse to quit or a reason to complain. Or perhaps we think we already know everything. Maybe we are too arrogant or proud to listen to and follow the advice of others. Perhaps we don't stick with it long enough to resolve the issue, or....  Do you see what I'm getting at?

I want to believe there are solutions to managing any issue, if one is patient enough to search and committed enough to resolution.

This topic was initiated by two threads here on the MB (linked below). Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could work toward common solutions!

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the object of this hobby is to spend more time looking at the aquarium than WORKING on it. But I'm sure that some people have a different view on that.
