Contestants have until the end of the day Wednesday, December 7th to complete and answer the following.

1. Please post a current picture of your frag.

2. Have you tested your water recently? (i.e. calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate, nitrite, ammonia, salinity, etc.)
For each test completed please share your results. (If tested multiple times, please share
the date you tested and what your results were.)

3. What is the one thing about your setup that you would change?

I am still working to compile all of the information for this contest. Please bare with me as I am just a volunteer and there is a lot of information already gathered. It should make following the contest much easier once we are there. So far the images coming in look good, we hope to see come good growth over the next month. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns

KH 7-8
Nitrate 0-5
Phosphate zero-ish
Calcium 400
Magnesium 1400

I'd like to go larger. I keep thinking a 120 4x2x2 or slightly larger cube would be perfect for my current space. I'd love to go much bigger if I had more room.

Mag 1300

Love all that I have honestly. More money would be nice lol

Ca: 360/ 320 2 weeks ago

Alk: 8.1

Mag: 1400

Nitrate: 2

Phosphate: .16

Salinity: 1.025

Temp: 78

Checked calcium 2 weeks ago since it was low during the last check-in.

What I would change is permanently running an RO line so I don't have to unroll the 40 foot 3/8 line I have under my kitchen sink every time I need to fill up my fresh water reservoir.

The coral on the left came from a frag about 8 months ago and it is possibly a frag of the contest "mother" coral.  Everyone might as well throw in the towel now, I got this one in the bag ;)

Evening shot:

11/27/16
Po4 - 0.07
SG - 1.025
Mg - 1300
Ca - 390
KH - 9.3

12/04/16
Po4 - 0.07
SG - 1.025
Mg - 1240
Ca - 400
KH - 8.8

I'm honestly very happy with my system.  The only thing I may try to adjust next is a more efficient way to keep nutrient levels under control.  Still lots more hair algae in the display than I prefer.  Wink

So perhaps an algae turf scrubber or similar option.  I also think I'm going to need to switch to a calcium reactor fairly soon.  Every week I have to keep adjusting my dosing amounts to keep up with growth and I'm going through my 2-part faster and faster.

it's interesting to see people's parameter. Alk is generally lower than I expected across the board, but it's were mine is (around 8 dkh) so that makes me feel better because I'm always stressing it's too low. Thanks everyone for posting!

So what's happened to everyone else?  How many people actually ended up picking up frags?  Only 5 updates just 4 weeks later is kinda sad.  Cry

Honestly I really just want to see how everyone is doing and what their system setups are.  I love learning as much as I can about keeping a successful reef tank.  And studying success isn't the only way to do that, learning about what didn't work can be just as insightful... assuming that's even part of why people aren't posting updates.

Aww, sorry to see it's not doing so great.  Cry

Any thoughts why?  I know I struggle to keep my Alk up, yours is higher than I ever have, and I sort start panicing when my Ca drops below 400.  Do you think it's parameters or something else?  I know you keep lots of stuff in your tanks.

I would say it is directly tied to the ALK and CA issues. I dose ALK/CA by hand daily and I have been to busy, so someone else has been dosing for me. ALK would be the big factor.

Good to know.  Thanks for sharing with us.  :)

Hopefully it still has a chance to recover once parameters are back to norm.
