Contestants have until the end of the day Monday, November 21st to complete and answer the following. 1. Please post a current picture of your frag. 2. Have you tested your water recently? (i.e. calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, nitrate, phosphate, nitrite, ammonia, salinity, etc.) For each test completed please share your results. (If tested multiple times, please share what you the date you tested and what your results were.) 3. What is the temperature of your tank? 4. Do you feed your coral? What do you feed? Do you spot feed, broadcast feed, or what do you do? We are be working to compile all of the information from applications and check-ins into one area for easy viewing and tracking of the contest. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.

Frag Contest Grow Out Check in 11/15 1.  (Best I can do right now) The white markings on the coral is slime just after it ate. 2. Parameters: * Calcium (11/13 - 470ppm) * Alkalinity (11/15 - 9.1dKH) * Manesium (N/A) * Nitrate (11/05) - 2ppm) * PO4 (11/05 - 0.00ppm) * Nitrite (N/A) * Ammonia (N/A) * Salinity (11/15 - 1.0265SG) 3. Temperature of the system fluctuates from 78F to 79F with an average temperature of 78.5F 4. I broadcast feed my system with an alternating food schedule that changes nightly. I feed Reef Chili, Marine Snow, and Pohl’s Coral Vitalizer. One hour after the photoperiod has ended I broadcast feed with the circulation pump off for one hour. The in tank circulation is unchanged during this time. |

 11/5/2016 Nitrate 0 Phosphate 0 Cal 400 KH 9 Mag 1260 11/9/2016 KH 8 Cal 420 Mag 1260 Temp 78-79 I broadcast cyclops 2-3 times a week just after the lights turn off. I might try targeting this frag. I broadcast mysis 2-3 times a week for the fish, sometimes target the RBTA. I broadcast a tiny pinch of flake food 1-2 times per day for the fish. 11/19 I moved the frag to a rock.   Nitrate 0-5 Phosphate 0-.25 KH 7 Calcium 400 Magnesium 1290 |

Last tested maybe 2-3 months ago, been lazy. Phosphate: ~.26ppm (color somewhere between .16 and .36) Nitrate: 2ppm (has been 0 for a few months but I recently started up an auto feeder and I set it for too many times a day to start out, cut it back to once daily for now.) Alkalinity: 9.0 dKH (targeting 9.0 dKH, this test is the only one that has actually been at target alk.) Magnesium: 1440ppm (target 1380, going to dial doser back a smidge.) Calcium: 290ppm (target 420, this is the sort of thing that happens when your lazy and don’t test often enough. Bumped the doser up a few ml per day and I dosed as much as I dare in one day, will check and dose again in a few days) Salinity: 1.024 (target 1.025, slowly added a salty slurry to the sump to get back up to target.) Food: LRS Reef Frenzy daily for nearly a year, target feed mysis ~monthly to corals. Started Aquatic Dreams Reef Yum-Yum around a month ago, fed it twice so far.
Going to go ahead and add everything I couldnt remember the day of registration. Lights: 72 inch Coralife (originally a 4-96w square pin) retrofitted with two Fulham Workhorse 8 and 8 t5HO (4-10,000K, 2-6,500K, 2 actinic blue) Odyssea brand for the first year. I am now running Wave Point brand (2-Super Blue 460, 2-Coral Wave coral growth accelerator (purplish color), 2-Sunwave Super Daylight 12,000K, 2-Reef Wave Super Violet O3 Actinic 420) Mag 12B submerged sump pump 2-50w cool white LED Refugium macro algae lights Diablo skimmer 2-M900 2-M1900 Mover brand powerheads and 1 unknown gifted powerhead. Jebao DP-4 dosing pump dosing Mg, Alk, Ca and RO top-off. Homemade Mg, Alk, and Ca. ¾ Carbon and ¼ TLF Phosban packed filter in parallel with a TLF Phosban reactor running Bio-pellets being supplied by a large Harbor Freight pond pump. New 10 Nov 2016, Eheim auto feeder feeding Neptune pellets. 125 Gallon Glass tank with Glass-Holes 1500 GPH overflow box. Homemade 55-gallon tank 3 compartment sump/ refugium, housing the skimmer, macro algae and return pump. |

  I have my calcium reactor back online and still trying to get it dialed back in. In the past 7 days I have gone from 7.3 to now 8.9. It was clearly a bad time to not be able to make any changes. Magnesium sits comfortably at 1360 and calcium a bit high for me at 480 but I'm sure that's due to my reactor settling back in after being down for a couple weeks. Feed mysis 2 - 3x daily and broadcast coral food nightly of 1/8 tsp Reef Chili and 1/8 tsp Benereef. I was natural able to feed the corals since Sunday though but restarted Thursday night. Temp is between 77 & 78 daily. I have to say I'm pretty impressed I not only haven't killed it but it looks so much better than when I got it home. Thanks and feel free to share any comments or insights. This is going to be about learning for me with this coral as I have never been successful with favites before. Will be posting pic asap, 1 yes, calcium is somehow extremely low, 320 or so. raising slowly. alk around 7. nitrate 0.00 and phosphate 0.08 sg 1.025 2 temp right at 80.3 yes i like to direct feed and broadcast as much as possible, mainly fed benepets reef food  ------------- 54 gallon rimless mixed EA sump 1 year running |

1)  2) Recent parameter testing... 11/12/16 Po4 - 0.04 SG - 1.025 Mg - 1300 Ca - 400 KH - 9.2 11/20/16 Po4 - 0.06 SG - 1.025 Mg - 1240 Ca - 405 KH - 9.2 3) Water temp is kept at 79 +/- 0.3 4) I broadcast feed BeneReef + Reef Roids 1-2 times a week & target feed LPS pellets + Goniopower once a week. I can't wait to learn what techniques everyone uses and see how they grow.  -Dave |
