Now that I won a 75gallon tank at MWRF I need to start acquiring parts. I've been reading about the Eheim comact+ series. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4587+28124&pcatid=28124" rel="nofollow - http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4587+28124&pcatid=28124 I'm thinking the Model3000 as it pushes 792gph. I will have more flow with some power heads in the tank, I'm just looking for something to push water through the sump. The sump will be a 40 breeder I believe. Or should I push for the larger pump at 1320gph? Figure I can use my $25 gift cert. at fostersmith :D (won that too!) |

ahh so that is how they read that. I saw "max head height" and was trying to figure out how much pressure is lost up to 9 ft. |

you think I would be ok with the smaller pump at 528gph? That way I don't have to dial the pump back in the sump? 7x the tank volume is still quite a bit and the overflow on a 7g5 I think can do 700gph |

Sorry, I read it wrong. Max flow of 792 would be at zero head. Flow at 4-5 feet of head would probably be half of that. The Eheim website is not helpful. It does not have the usual graph of flow x feet of head. I always recommend buying a pump that pushes about 50% more than required, throttled back as needed and able to be throttled up as crud grows in the lines. Im now thinking of the Eheim 1262 http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=4604 They have a chart under the "more information" tab. I think my head height is about 4.5 ft. That sets my flow just over 600 gph which is what my outlet will be. Then I can run an excess pipe back to my fuge to control the flow. |

With the eheim 1262. You would diffiently be above 600gph.
