i'm curious to know if anyone uses a spray bar in
their tank. I'm thinking of putting one in my tank but would like to know the goods and bads of one. also, feel free to provide tips on making one. (pics or instructions) thanks |

| if you're going through the hassle of making a spray bar i would just put a "ring" of pvc around the top of the whole tank with 4-8 threaded t-fittings in it spaced evenly. then just buy some lockline as you see fit and plug the others. this is how i have it done on my 30 gallon and i get much better "random" flow and its now basically infinitely adjustable as well. |

i actually have the same size tank as you. i have the
pvc, lockline, and squid....but was just curious to know what people on here like best. do you have any pics of your set up?? did you use mostly 45degree elbows?? i used too many 90's and had hardly any flow. |

i don't have any pics but would be happy to take some tomorrow.
from the sump up, the setup goes... pump -> a few inches of
soft tube (prevent vibration) -> hardline straight up -> 45 angle
to get behind the tank -> straight -> 45 to get it back vertical
-> straight up to top of tank -> 90 degree to get it horizontal
just over the tank edge -> 90's straight pieces and T fittings that
surround the edge of the tank. i have 4 t fittings and run 1 lockline off the sides and the front and the 1 in the back i use a Y to split the lockline into two. a total of 5 lock line outputs in to the tank. i pump about 800GPH through this setup and don't use any other powerheads in the tank. will try and get pictures for you tomorrow |

I made a spray bar for my planted tank. It turned out cool, and actually
very efficent for what I wanted. I used flexible tubing, 1 inch I believe. I drilled like 4 or 5 holes in it with my drill. I picked places where my tank had stagnant areas, pointing to the front and behind my rocks. I did have one issue so far. I had a sock lose carbon that went into the pump and into the bar, filled the holes so I got a bunch of microbubbles. It was easy enough to take off the spray bar and get them out. Skye told me the holes can get encrusted with coraline algae, so I made the holes pretty big. It has worked for me , but I've only had it a few months. But, it was cheap and easy to make, so if it needs to be replaced, it's no big deal. |
