A club member asked me a question, and I thought it best to pass it on here.

Does anyone have advise on care for hammer/frogspawn corals?  We gave a couple beautiful cuttings away the other night.  I saw them in the store tanks and they looked great, so I know they were good when we got them.  After 2 days, if the polyps have not come out yet, is that reason for concern?

Thanks

Adam

I hope that link works.  Pistonfister asked the same very question about two months ago or so.  The thread above is in this same catagory if that link doesn't work.

Mine never take that long to extend. But then again they have never been in a bag for a few hours. I have taken them out of the tank and moved them around and they usually extend after a few hours.

That club member may want to ask what force and direction of water current is hitting the coral. Move the coral to a different place. Same goes for lighting.

How long was it in the bag? Did it get stressed by being too cool or too hot for too long. Did they wait till morning to place it in the tank rather than throwing it in the tank in the dark(works fine for me) and positioning it the next day.

Also what is nearby and what else is in the tank, like other LPS coral or is there an overgrowth of one kind of algae or Xenia that may be inhibiting the coral's comfort?

Yes, it is reason for concern after two days. And we don't know about the tank's water parameters, the age of the tank, etc.
