I am somewhat new to the forum and I usually can find an answer on one of the posts, but I dont know what to do about this one.

I have a 46 bow and 10 gallon sump and just added a flame angel about 3 hrs ago (my last fish I want to add). As soon as I put him in my yellow tang was chasing him around beating him up. The flame angel was able to find cover in the rocks, but the tang which is slightly bigger keeps ramming into the tight space and either flicking him with his tail or biting him. When the FA tries to come out the tang chases him right back and the tang keeps a close watch on the FA hiding spot, and would not let him out to eat.  The yellow tang gets along very well with the others (percula clown, blue tang, and chromis) so I dont understand why this would happen. I dont think any of this would play a factor but I have about 50lbs of LR and mostly soft corals (Kenya tree, xenia, hammer, zoos)

Should I attempt  take out the FA and take it back to the store to save the poor guys life? Remove the tang ? Wait a little longer and see if it gets better? Any other suggestions

Thanks,

Dave

I would bet that they will be fine.. Give them 3 or 4 days.

I had the  inverse happen to me about a month ago. My angel didnt like the new tang... Beat the heck out of him for two days and then started to back off. They get along fine now.

maybe up your feeding a bit for the next little while, defending food availability is the motivation for the majority of fishy aggresion. If everyone is fed they're less likely to be competitive.

I should say though that if it keeps up after a day or two you may consider either trading in the tang for one smaller than the flame angel, or the flame angel for a larger specimen or more aggresive species than the tang.

Thanks for the advice. By the time I got home from work today they seem to be friends already, swimming around next to each other and such.

Your Tang just had to show the Angel who was boss of the tank.  Probably just the whole initiation protocol of your ecosystem.
