Anyone tap into the cold water faucet that feeds the washing machine? Is there some T or Y "splitter" of sorts I can pick up at the hardware store? I'm heading there today so any ideas would be helpful.

That's exactly what I use;  a "Y" with shut-off valves on each end. I find it in the garden hose section of the hardware store. There is great advantage to filling buckets of RO water on top of the washing machine. When, not if, you forget it's going, the overflow can be used to wash the next load.  I have also filled RO buckets from the pure water line I ran over to a bathtub. No worries, no upset wife.  BTW, how is the nuisance hair algae doing? I was gifted a pincushion urchin and 2 turbo snails. All the Florida ceriths died from my CUC order, but some of the nerites seem to be doing their work. The 2 turbo snails have already cleared 2-3 palm of your hand size spots. The urchin doesn't clear out patches the way the turbo snails do, but the trails he blazes seem to have less hair algae than before. As the budget rolls over I'll slowly add more snails. I don't have any expectations to have this knocked out in a really short time. I really think that steady water changes, decreased feeding, and the cleanup crew will eventually get it under control. ------------- Ils sont fous, ces Romains! |

Thanks, Mark. I did indeed get the garden hose attachment at Lowe's and got the RO unit up and running last night. I should mention I also picked up a skimmer. It has the exact same body shape and skimming style of an Aqua C EV-120, but appears to be an older model because of minor physical differences. It could be a knock off, I don't know, but there's no identifying markings of make/brand/model. It's missing the ball valve on the output, so I added one using Lowe's PVC. Unfortunately my sump is still a mess, so I can't fit the skimmer in there just yet. I have an empty 29 gallon that would give me enough room, but I want to put acrylic baffles in it for the micro bubble trap. Acrylic isn't cheap, and the current sump I don't want is made of acrylic, so I need to find a Saturday where I can empty out the sump, take it out of the stand, clean it up, cut it up into baffles to fit the 29, silicone in place, let it dry, and put the new setup back in the stand and then run the skimmer and grow chaeto in a more orderly fashion. The whole setup is coming along, albeit slowly. I'm pretty excited. ------------- Ils sont fous, ces Romains! |
