OK... Finch had me really rethink my "upgrade" on my new skimmer with a "larger" rated gph pump. I'm glad he did... caused me to run another test and definitely to keep the Sedra 3500. Now, the urge to add, tinker, adjust, supe... whatever you call it just had to be overcome(a pride thing for the custom issue I guess), so I just added a recirc Sedra 2500 needle impeller... that did it!!!

So does that mean you have two pumps pushing into your skimmer?

If not than, now I'm confused, it looks like you have two pumps going.

I do have 2 pumps... 1(sedra 3500) feeding the skimmer...

... and 1 pulling water from the skimmer body and feeding it directly back into the body... recirculating pump(sedra 2500).

Good to know you've got the yaks to drill into a nice skimmer!

I like that set-up.  Do you think it could drive an even larger skimmer?  Did you use uni-seals?

Yep... 2 pretty large holes. Actually, I used 2 bulkheads w/thick beveled plumbing seals... I didn't have the patience to wait and seek for the stock seals equipped on the skimmer. BTW, thanks... it's producing very nicely and I am quite confident that this skimmer would skim a 200 pretty nicely. I'll bet the G2 would reach up to a 300 with a 3500 recirc along with the 3500 feed nicely.

Very nice!

FWIW, you can get uniseals fairly quick from here:  http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/iid/8600/cid/2009 - http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detai l/iid/8600/cid/2009

And a little cheaper, but longer wait (I've ordered from both):  http://www.aussieglobe.com/uniseal3.htm - http://www.aussieglobe.com/uniseal3.htm

Uniseals are awesome!

My DIY is 36" h x 6" d... Eventually I plan on up to a 300 gl and feel that with a sedra 5000 for feed and a sedra 5000 to 9000, the skim will be totally covered for a decent bio-load. Right now, it's just sitting in storage. Being that ER, H&S, ASM, etc have similarities in design that look to be more simple than complex... I try to have them in mind when playing with future designs/mods that I'ld like to trial.
