I currently have a RIO 2500 pump for my return.  I know, I know.  I would like to replace it with something better that will pump slightly more water.  I have a 4-5 foot head to pump against, and 2 90 deg bends to the tank.  Any suggestions?

Edit: It must be a submersable.

I have a mag 9.5 that I love to no end!

I would look in to the mag line, I have had no problems with this pump at all, I bought it online for a very good price.

I agree - Mag drives are definately the way to go. Quiet running and dependable

I just did some research on the mag drives, and at my head the mag 7 pumps about 420 (less than I am moving now), and the 9.5 moves about 750 ( waaaay more than I am moving now, and probably too much for my overflow).  I think I need a mag 8.0, too bad they don't make one.

You could still go with the 9.5 and throttle it down on the pressure side of the pump.

I was thinking maybe a SCWD to throttle, but I don't know if my 1/2" loclines can handle the flow without cavitation/bubbles.  Maybe if i removed the fan nozzles.

I think I am somewhat lost.

Why would the fan nozzles or your loclines introduce bubbles from cavitation.  Are they not on the pressure side of the pump? (Or return to the tank).

I could understand if they were on the suction side of the pump, however, that would just be sick and wrong!

I think I am lost, maybe they wouldn't cause bubbles.  I was thinking that if they couldn't handle the pressure there would be turbulence and therefore bubbles.  It is entirely likely that I am way off here.

Has anyone used a "Quietone" pump?  The model 3000 should pump just a bit more without overflowing my tank.

I am still curious about throttleing down the mag 9.5.  Theoretically at a 4' head my pump now is running about 529gph.  I know that the elbows reduce that somewhat, I have been trying to make some sense of the chart Jon posted the other day.  Perhaps I should have Jon just come over and take a look at my setup, because it seems like if I increase my flow much more, my overflow will not be able to handle it, or at least it will raise my water level too high.
