So what's the concensus? He's been in my tank for about a year. I hear lots of people claim that these guys are hunters/fish killers. I always disregarded the idea till today. I just put a Lawn Mower Blennie in yesterday. He seemed happy as...well, a LMB. This morning, th fish was gone. I'd just done a 15% water change. I can't imagine that my parameters killed him. Am I being paranoid? Do I trade himin for a kinder, gentler star? This is he second LMB I've lost now. ------------- Educate. Inspire. Conserve. http://[email protected] |

It hard to say if he is the culprit or not. If it were me I would keep him. I really don't think they are fish killers. I think you need to be looking elsewhere for the killer. I wouldn't doubt that for a second. That little mailto:b@$ - b@$ !*^& was biting me constantly while I was re-aquascaping. He offed Nemo too. Property dispute over the BTA. Now that youve lost 2 LMB's perhaps trying something like the more recently popular Sea Hare would be good for algae control. I had one about that size that loved to eat fish. You could see a big bulge in the center after it ate fish. Hope that was helpful.

Did he hunt live fish, or just eat the dead/dying ones...that is the question. Turns out the LMB was just being shy. He went site unseen for 2 days, then I saw him peeking over my star polyps last night. Sorry for the false alarm. ------------- Educate. Inspire. Conserve. http://[email protected] |

| I've seen these guys hunt fish. But they got pretty aggressive. And then there belly would bulge after eating one. |

| Mine would prey on the dying fish. When I first introduced him to my old tank, as he was floating to the bottom he manuvered to the right about three feet and as he hit the bottom he started yanking a seafan out of it's 'shell'. I'm guessing the worm was sick also but it was interesting to see him as he hit the water to go for the food! |

I had a green brittle star eat a purple firefish. My recomendation is to go with the smooth serpent stars, they are very peaceful and eat leftover food. I have two green, and one brown. I haven't seen them attack anything.... But when i feed them shrimp. They grab it well. So if a fish happens to get close enough to the arm and gets touched, yea there food. But the anenomies are the same way.... But we keep them.... ------------- I will just give my warning that your system will flood, bulbs will burn out, and things will take continuous maintenance... get over it. Magna |
