I came home today and noticed my sail fin had a few white spots like maybe 4 on his swim fins, hes acting normal. After looking more closely my RBTA has some spot on him as well ,but hes open and the fingers with spots are extended and fat as usual.I have been feeding more than normal , could this be the cause or should i be alarmed at this point ?None of my other 7 fish have any and are acting normal as can be /

Besides the stress brought on by adding new fish, changing the aquascaping, etc., there are three specific water quality items that can cause an emergence of the Ich Parasite.

1. If feeding more than normal has caused the biofiltration to fall behind leading to elevated pollution.
2. If the water flow and gas exchange at the surface of the tank is inadequate the corresponding low pH will bring on the Ich Parasite. pH is a direct result of an improper balance of O2:CO2 in the water.
3. Alkalinity, if lower than 7 dKH allows the pH to fall below 8.0, especially at night, which can be a major cause of Ich. Keep Alk around 9-10 dKH so that pH will more naturally remain above 8.0
