I was feeding my fish and eel. I put some flakes in the tank and the feeding frenzy started; I had a silver side on a feeding stick to feed the eel and it came off so I just dumped the rest in for him to find on his own. The eel was on the hunt for the silver sides, I think he was going for a piece of a silver side and grabbed my sailfin tang taking a chunk of his dorsal fin. It doesn't look like the eel did any damage to the body of the fish.

Do I need to worry about the safety of my tang or other fish?

My eel only comes out of hiding when I feed my other fish with flakes, any recommendations to prevent an accident like this from happening again?

It's odd, and I wouldn't worry about it again. I've rarely heard of this happening, and usually just once.

I'd love a pic of that tang!

I would probably try to feed the eel first and try to feed him in the same spot, it kinda trains them if you do it repeatedly and it should help stop the confusion.
