Are there any local suppliers of PVC Bulkheads & fittings that are not specifically gouging aquarium folk?

Not that I have found. Although the prices really aren't that bad. I would check out Aquatica if you can. I use a place online. http://www.savko.com/index.asp - http://www.savko.com/index.asp They are cheap and pretty quick shipping. My favorite bulkheads come from Marine Depot because of how small they are. I wish I would have gotten all 3 of mine from them. I could have made my overflow an inch smaller and had more room in the tank.

What size Bulkheads are you looking for? Slip on both sides? Slip on one and threaded on the other? Or threaded on threaded? How many will you need? Schedule 40 or 80? ------------- HOLD MY BEER, I WANT TO TRY SOMETHING... |

I am fairly new at this, but I need 4 - 1" sch 40 bulkheads. 2 will be for drain and 2 for return. I thought threaded on both ends would be the most flexible when setting up the rest of the plumbing, but I am not sure. What would you suggest? I could see where slip on both ends may be easier and more leak proof.
BTW are there any tricks to installation? I assume the nut and gasket go on the outside and that you don't need any additional silicone or anything. Any tips would be appreciated.
Unfortunately I don't have an unlimited budget, at the same time I don't want a flood. I assume that for the best price and availability I will have to order on line. I was just wondering if there is a good supplier locally that has good prices and inventory.

The gasket always goes on the inside and the nut on the outside to create the proper seal. With that you shouldn't need any sealant. I made the mistake of doing in the other way once - NOT pretty! Just thought I'd try to save you a headache.

| $4 to $5 IMO but you get what you pay for. I would rather pay a few extra bucks to know my tank won't leak then to pay for a whole new stand and a ton of housework because I skimped out. |

If you want to skimp like Ryan mentioned go with the black abs with a seam in the side that can split and does also the threads can jump when tightening them. On ebay you can get them 10 for 20$, off the top of my head I can get you schedule 80 for $17.00 each, I highly recommend them, schedule 40 is less but have to check my source. I had ordered them for my own use but can get more if needed, I think I may use Ryans suggestion and go with SAVCO next time depending on their shipping. Shaz - this is for a sump. Sch 80 would be better I know and $17 is a great price. However, for that much I will have to save up a bit longer.
Ryan - thanks for the input on threaded bulkheads. When you say a few extra bucks, I assume you mean sch80 fittings?
I see people use the cheap abs bulkheads all the time, but I could see where sch80 would give more peace of mind. Especially if the cheaper bulkheads could split on a seam.
